Best Practices for Organizing Misdemeanor and Felony Cases for Filing Review

This training is recommended for all police personnel who present misdemeanor and felony cases to prosecutorial agencies for filing review, and those who are interested in the criteria used to evaluate such cases. The training will include a live demonstration of the newest technology (Electronic Charge Evaluation Request- eCER), utilized by many police departments throughout Los Angeles and Orange County to electronically submit police reports to the District Attorney’s Office for filing review. You will also hear from experienced filing Deputy District Attorneys regarding the criteria used in determining whether a case is filed or declined; recent developments in law; recurrent issues and pitfalls; common charges and allegations; writing concise reports; and, the LA County District Attorney’s Office Pre-Filing Diversion Program for misdemeanor cases.
